Another Successful Rhino Rewilding and Wild Calf Birth

May 12, 2022

As all our followers know we had the wonderful news that Montle, one of our released orphans, had a calf in March. It was decided that our beautiful birthday gift, a little girl, will be named Malaika, which means “Angel” in Swahili.

But another gift has arrived in our 10th birthday month. The stork has delivered another little calf to a rhino who had been under our care a few years ago, a poaching survivor called Nana. Nana was not an orphan but survived a poaching attack in which her best friend, a rhino bull named Mike, was killed and hacked. Nana herself, around 3 years old at the time, was shot but survived and came into our care with bullet wounds through her abdomen. She recovered really well and once healed, was moved to a safe location where she could live wild and free. This baby is Nana’s 4th wild born calf, a little boy named Mulilo (only a few hours old in the photos below) which means “Fire”, because of his fiery spirit already evident. It is wonderful news like this that gives us new fire in our hearts and the spirit to push through and push hard with the monumental task of relocating. It is your kind-hearted donations that make all of this possible. Thank you for the support of our Birthday Fundraiser thus far but we have a long long way to go. Look at these incredible photos of Mulilo and know that YOUR contributions 🌈 make this possible.
